This summer, we’re honored to help share a powerful and important message from our friend Daniel Mendelson, whose son Julian tragically drowned last year while on vacation. As an organization dedicated to supporting our first responders, we know just how quickly accidents can happen—and how important prevention and awareness can be.
💧 Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children ages 1–4.
💧 70% of toddler drownings happen during non-swim time.
💧 Drowning is silent. There’s no splash, no scream—just absence.
Daniel’s words are a heartbreaking but vital reminder:
“There are many things I wish we had done differently. The biggest being: staying in a home with a risky water element and assuming adult supervision alone would keep our children safe. We did not fully understand the safety risks that swimming pools pose to young children.”
In Julian’s memory, we ask our community to take time to educate yourselves and your loved ones:
🚨 Watch this short video on the 5 Layers of Protection
📚 Read “Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim” with your kids
🚧 Ensure any pool you visit has proper barriers and gates
🏊♂️ Enroll your kids in survival swim lessons
Let’s protect our little ones together. Please share this post. It could save a life. 💙
