If you’re looking for an evening that combines family fun, community spirit, and the chance to connect with your neighbors and local law enforcement, circle Tuesday, October 7, 2025 on your calendar. From 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., the Isle of Palms Recreation Center will come alive with the sounds of laughter, music, and community fun as the island celebrates National Night Out—sponsored for the third year in a row by the Law Enforcement Neighborhood Support (LENS) Foundation, together with the many local island businesses whose support helps make this event possible. Stop by the LENS exhibit during the event to learn more about this island-focused nonprofit and how you can get involved.
This free, family-friendly event has something for everyone: a live DJ, games and activities for kids, vehicle displays from local first responders, free food, and plenty of exciting giveaways. It’s the perfect way to spend a fall evening, whether you’re stopping by to grab a bite, letting the kids burn off some energy, or catching up with neighbors and friends.
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out is more than just a neighborhood block party. It’s a movement that began back in 1984, designed to promote partnerships between police departments and the communities they serve. The idea was simple but powerful: dedicate one night a year to strengthening the bond between neighbors and law enforcement, with the goal of making communities safer and more connected.
What started with small gatherings across a few neighborhoods has now grown into a nationwide event celebrated in thousands of towns and cities across America. Each year, millions of people step outside their front doors to join together in a spirit of unity, safety, and community pride.
For Isle of Palms, National Night Out is an opportunity to meet officers and first responders face-to-face—not just in uniform, but as neighbors ready to share popcorn, laughs, and conversation.
Why It Matters
The IOP Law Enforcement Neighborhood Support (LENS) Foundation Director Ted Kinghorn says the event reflects exactly what the foundation is all about.
“National Night Out is more than a fun evening—it’s a chance to strengthen the ties between our residents and the officers who work tirelessly to protect them. This event embodies our mission at LENS: uniting the community and bridging the gap between police and the people they serve. We’re proud to be part of it.”
The Isle of Palms Police Department is equally excited to welcome the community for a night of connection and fun. Police Chief Kevin Cornett shared his perspective:
“We are excited to host National Night Out once again. This event is about bringing neighbors and officers together to build trust, strengthen relationships, and celebrate the partnerships that keep our wonderful island safe. We look forward to connecting with residents and continuing to grow the strong bonds that make Isle of Palms a great place to live, work, and visit.”
And for the Isle of Palms Recreation Department, hosting the event is a highlight of the year. Director Karrie Ferrell noted:
“We are proud to host National Night Out at the Rec. Center annually and provide a fun space for families, neighbors, police, and first responders to connect. This event would not be possible without the hard work of the Isle of Palms Police Department, and we are grateful for the partnership to make it happen. Bring the whole family for free food, music, games, and plenty of community fun—you won’t want to miss this celebration of island spirit.”
